When I arrived at OCCED this morning Ganesh Ji suggested that we went to find a basketball net. There is a dedicated sports shop in Kathmandu but first we tried the surermarket as it is closer. No luck.It was not so much the distance to the sports shop but the traffic and the roads. Many of the roads we went down we unmade with potholes big enough to bath in.We did however manage to get a basketball ring and net of really good quality.A metal worker is going to make a pole and a carpenter the backboard.Maybe it will be up over the weekend. The walls have been painted with the wrong paint so hopefully that will be rectified tomorrow so that we can paint on Saturday.
We arrived back at about 11:30 and Reema had played the songs. She and Kausalya were very pleased. All in all I didn't actually do much this morning but I did see alot more of Kathmandu!
This afternoon I worked with Rabin,Sonia,Nina and Seina. Not that I am sure it can be called work.We played with Brainy Blocks and drew.It did feel like a break through though because Nina (who has been very reluctant to free draw and normally gets very upset when what she is draws isn't as the picture) did a drawing entirely on her own and didn't get upset. Her grin reached from ear to ear.Iended up staying with them all until I left for home.
Some days I just watch the children for a while and what strikes me most is that I could be anywhere in the world watching children. They play the same, fight the same, have the same toilet humour, are accepting of differences, and like everyone they want to be loved and live in peace.I think all world leaders ought to spend time in the company of children from all around the world and learn from them and perhaps they will see the similarities rather than differences.
It looks like you are having an amazing time - im looking forward to seeing your photos and hearing more of your adventures. What you said about watching the children made me think of this,
ReplyDelete'Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends' Maya Angelou
Enjoy every second. xx
