Yesterday at OCCED a new volunteer (Sonia) and I spent the morning singing and playing games with the children. They are all beginning to get colds due to the season change. In fact everyone seems to have one.Apparently it happens every year at this time when the weather begins to get colder.
Last evening Ganesh invited me to his house for supper and to meet his wife,Anita, who is currently undergoing Chemo. It was a really good evening.
Yesterday in Nepal the Prime Minister was supposed to be elected but the 3 main parties could not agree so there is still no 'head' to run things.Everyone I have spoken to about it is so dispirited because nothing is being done to improve their lives. If anything things are getting worse.Power share is increasing so they are longer without power and the main water pressure is lower because there is more demand.Peoples lives here are a continual struggle and I keep being told that there is no light at the end.Infact Raj said the other day he didn't think it would improve in his lifetime and that so many qualified, well educated people were leaving because they could earn so much more somewhere else and have a lifestyle they could not hope to have here. Many of the young people are studying in either the UK,Australia or America and then tend to stay in those countries so they are also losing almost another generation of educated people.Until the education system (GOOD education for all) and the infra-structure are improved I don't think this process will be reversed. It is sad for the Nepali people who only want a peaceful government and a country they can be proud of.
On a different note I was reading a paper yesterday and a quote caught my eye that i would like to share with you.
'One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns of another and find the rose within'
