First Under 14's chess tornament in Nepal

Today I arrived at OCCED to the preparation for the first under 14's chess tournament in Nepal. It was organised by OCCED and involved 15 children's homes from`around Kathmandu. The Nepali Chess Champion was there to support it.The tournament is to take place over 3 days. The children are all going to play 6 games. 1 point for a win, 0 for a loss and 1/2 for a draw. The scores are then added and the top 10 are going away for two days and one night to 'Snow view resort' The idea behind it is to encourage the children to socialise. If today is anything to go by it is going to be a great success.I am very impressed with OCCED and their projects. They have various projects throughout Nepal.(OCCED is Organisation for Community,Child & Environment Development)
I spent the earlier part of the morning with the preschool children and then left as I was invitd to the tournament.Once that finished for the day I went in with the toddlers. I found a box of 10 rattles in the storeroom and took them in for them.Nena gave them one each and put the remaining five away for another day.The children played with them all the time I was there.I think because they all made different sounds they were fascinated with them.I spent the remainder of the afternoon with the girls helping them with their homework and showing them the photos I brought with me.Jamuna (3 1/2 ) was very poorly this afternoon with a temperature of 102. Kausalya and the Didis were very quick to react and she was soon dosed up with medicine and put to bed.She soon crept onto my lap and stayed there most of the time I was homeworking. The children really are very well cared for.The staff do amazingly well with the limited resources that they have.I respect them all greatly.
